Terra Incognita has been supported by the Arts Council.
Thanks to Mark Graham and Taha Yasseri at the Oxford Internet Institute for all their help, advice and assistance.
Gavin Baily is the founder of TraceMedia, producing visualisations, mapping and digital arts projects. He is has collaborated with a broad range of clients including arts organisations, museums, broadcasters, and research departments.
His recent projects have focused on the creative possibilities of large scale cultural, social media and geo-spatial archives. In a collaboration with the Oxford Internet Institute he is researching the cultural biases in the geography of Wikipedia, and with UCL he is examining how social media platforms describe urban space. This research grew out of the project Data-Art, a partnership with University of Westminster and the BBC.
Prior to TraceMedia Gavin held a number of research positions at organisations including the University of Cambridge, Space Syntax, BBC and the Royal College of Art.
His digital artworks have been shown internationally at venues including Ars Electronica, ICA, Victoria & Albert Museum, ZKM, Transmediale, FutureEverything, ISEA, and the ICC Tokyo.
